Editorial policy
Western Movie Journal aims to make writing about Western film clear, considered and fair. We identify the focus of each piece, check factual details with care and make our editorial relationships visible to readers.
Accuracy and interpretation
We take reasonable care to check names, titles, dates and other factual claims before publication. Interpretations of a film are presented as readings, not as settled facts. When a point is uncertain or disputed, we say so rather than smoothing away the uncertainty. Readers can send corrections through the Contact page; we review them and amend material when a correction is warranted.
Editorial independence
Editorial choices are made for their relevance to readers and the publication's subject. A commercial relationship does not buy a favourable editorial conclusion. We do not claim special access, private research or first-hand viewing tests that we have not carried out.
Partnerships and paid material
If a placement or article has a commercial or partner relationship, we label that relationship clearly where the material appears. Partner placements are kept distinct from independent editorial coverage. The presence of a label lets readers understand the relationship; it does not replace our responsibility to describe the material accurately.
Illustrations
Some illustrations on the site may be AI-generated. Where an illustration could be mistaken for documentary film material or a historical image, we identify it as an illustration and do not present it as evidence of an actual scene, person or event.
